Skin Care Saturday with Mindy Armandi

Hi everybody, I’m so excited for another installment of Skin Care Saturday! This week, I want to talk about the amazing benefits of bakuchiol as an alternative to retinol for your skincare needs.

Recently being crowned as “the natural alternative to retinol,” this plant-derived alternative shows great promise in anti-aging without some of the side effects that many people experience with retinol, like redness, sensitivity, dryness, redness, and flaking skin.

BAKUCHIOL VS. RETINOL – WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?

Bakuchiol is a plant-derived compound with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-bacterial properties extracted from the seeds of the bakuchi plant. And while there is no structural resemblance to retinol, bakuchiol is said to be its natural alternative, as it revitalizes and nourishes the skin.

Additionally, bakuchiol is proven to boost collagen and elastin production while simultaneously reducing photoaging like fine lines and wrinkles. However, unlike retinol, bakuchiol has no harsh side effects on the skin and is a much more gentle alternative. Studies have also shown bakuchiol is beneficial in reducing acne by fighting inflammation, hyperpigmentation, and roughness.

COLLAGEN QUEEN’S CORNER: TIP OF THE WEEK

Always wear your sunscreen (even in the winter). This is especially important if you’re using a retinol-based product, and even when you’re driving in the car.

WHY WOULD YOU WANT A NATURAL ALTERNATIVE TO RETINOL?

Although highly safe and effective, retinol is extremely potent, and not everyone can tolerate products with retinol. For example, I have a daughter who suffers from hormonal breakouts. After chatting with my friend Danielle , an extremely knowledgeable Arbonne consultant, we just switched to a bakuchiol-based Arbonne product. I’ll be sure to keep you posted on her experience.

Individuals treating their skin with retinol are cautioned to avoid the sun (due to phototoxicity concerns). The nice thing about bakuchiol is that bakuchiol actually is able to deliver the same benefits without the concern of overloading the skin and causing irritation. Arbonne also carries some amazing anti-aging skincare products. If you’re interested in learning more about their products, be sure to reach out to Danielle (Instagram @deefrances) and tell her the Collagen Queen sent you.

If you’re interested in learning more about how you can protect, refresh, and rejuvenate your skin, shoot me a message. I’d love to hear from you! Likewise, if you’ve used bakuchiol, I’d love to hear your feedback.

Until next week, the Queen is signing off!
